Sounders FC midfielder Peter Vagenas hasn’t even reported to training camp yet, and his planned arrival could very well be further delayed.
Vagenas was to join the team in California for camp, but is now scheduled for arthroscopic knee surgery tomorrow. The initial injury diagnosis was a bone bruise above the knee but now it will have to be further examined.
To answer a couple of inquires from readers; 1) Yes, I am headed to California next week to spend some time with the team. You’ll continue to get the same stuff from me on pretty much a daily basis while I’m there. Hope the sun is out and it’s kind of warm! 2) The team would like to open its preseason games to the public, but I’ve been told that sometimes it’s not practical when it’s just a training session for two teams. The March 12 game at Qwest Field is essentially a training session for the entire Sounders FC game operations staff. Closed friendlies are pretty common in the sport, and Sounders FC wants the fans to understand, it says, because essentially what the team is doing is preparing to give them the best possible product once the gates are open and the games begin for real. 3) Tickets for the U. of Portland game down in Portland will go through the school. Details unavailable as yet.
