As in, “what a shame.” What a shame that Mexico couldn’t really do much of anything in tonight’s U.S.-Mexico World Cup qualifier. But it was a fun night.
I ventured on down to Fuel, a nice spot on Second and Washington in Pioneer Square, to watch the game after the fellows and ladies of the Emerald City Supporters invited me down to say hello and make introductions. I sported the Mexico white jersey and wasn’t alone in my support for El Tri, but the Americans showed why they are the dominant force in CONCACAF with the 2-0 win.
Mexico had two or three scoring chances at best. The U.S. squad has a lot of talent and when Mexico’s Rafa Marquez got red-carded, that was it.
It stands to reason that these two teams will still be the top two in CONCACAF when all the 2010 WC qualifying is done, but the way it played Wednesday, Mexico could be hard-pressed to maintain the second-place bid. I imagine it will be a much closer game when the teams play in Mexico later this year, but give the U.S. credit.
Anyway, good to meet some of the bloggers and fans tonight and thanks to all for saying hello, being cool and letting me know how much they’re enjoying the blog. Believe me when I tell you that those folks cannot wait to get the MLS season started and are already making plans to do a lot of things.
