I was watching Sky Sports News (errrr, Fox Soccer Report, thanks for the correction on that one, Ben) on the Fox Soccer Channel last night (what a junkie I am becoming!) and the anchors spoke of the Smith trade, as well as mentioning that defender Jeff Parke, whose MLS rights belong to Seattle, wants to return to MLS but not with Sounders FC.
Hmmm….let’s see what happens there. A trade involving Parke could happen.
Here’s Red Bulls sporting director Jeff Agoos’ statement on acquiring Smith, from the New York Web site:
“One of our priorities before the start of the season was to add depth and athleticism to the left side of our midfield and we feel that we have accomplished this goal by acquiring Khano. We think that Khano’s pace, athleticism and experience will immediately help our club as we enter the new MLS season.”
As a Red Bull, Smith’s first game with his new team would be against his old one on March 19 when the regular season opens in Seattle. But then there is this quote from Smith as reported by the Bermuda Royal Gazette:
“It would have been nice to have come up against Sounders in my first game but it’s still pretty ironic I could make my debut against [the New England] Revolution at Giants Stadium.”
Smith’s former team, the Revs, play at New York in the Red Bulls’ second game of the season.
