Advancing tonight’s Central Coast Showcase game

Seattle (3-0 in exhibitions) vs. San Jose Earthquakes, 7 p.m., Alex Spanos Stadium, Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo, CA.

From Sounders FC:

THE NASL DAYS

In their 20 NASL meetings, Seattle went 12-8 against San Jose. Even after the Earthquakes joined MLS, they met the Sounders of the USL seven times, including an exhibition game last year. In those US Open Cup and friendly games, Seattle held a 4-2-1 edge.

SOUNDERS-EARTHQUAKES CONNECTIONS

James Riley came to the Sounders after one year with the Earthquakes. Non-roster invitee Roger Levesque started his professional career with San Jose before he joined the Sounders in the USL after several loan stints.

Note (thanks to Cal Poly sports info dept.): Cal Poly mens soccer coach Paul Holocher is a former Sounders fan (grew up in the Seattle area) and turned out to play for the Earthquakes during his professional career.

ABOUT THE EARTHQUAKES

San Jose finished 8-13-9 in their expansion season last year. Goalkeeper Joe Cannon was fifth in the league with a 1.27 GAA. Some other highlights from their roster include former star of the Premiership and Championship Darren Huckerby (who played briefly with Sounders FC goalkeeper Kasey Keller at Millwall in 1996) and former Reading midfielder Bobby Convey, a newcomer to the Earthquakes this year. Also new to the Earthquakes roster will be former Sounders forward Cam Weaver, who signed with the Earthquakes last week after two seasons with FK Haugesund in Norway. Prior to that, he was the USL First Division Rookie of the Year after scoring 18 goals with the Sounders. The Kent, Wash., product played collegiately at Seattle University.
