Found this in the blogosphere, a Real Salt Lake blog called Behind the Shield that discusses a charity auction in Utah. You can own something the Sounders FC technical director and North Sound native wore during his playing days, an old-style Colorado Rapids jersey.
Chris’s number is retired in Colorado, by the way. It’s painted on a wall at one end of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.
Further investigation reveals that the cause is a very good one. Read this from the ebay page that is taking bids on Henderson’s jersey:
Soccer Unites Utah is a charitable group that is raising funds to offset the medical costs for Marcia Williams, the wife of RSL midfielder Andy Williams. Marcia has been fighting a rare form of leukemia since being diagnosed in August 2008, and all funds collected during this series of auctions will go directly to Soccer Unites Utah to help fund Marcia’s ongoing battle against the disease.
Beginning on Valentine’s Day, Soccer Unites and RSL will auction off two jerseys daily, with each available separately for bidding for seven days. Direct links to each day’s auctions will go live at 12:00 p.m. MT at RSL’s team blog, Behind the Shield – found online at www.RSLtotheCore.com – through Friday, Feb. 27. In addition, a sneak peek of the next day’s jerseys and a full day-by-day roster of the auction are also available at Behind the Shield.
