Saludos desde la ciudad de rosas…Greetings from the City of Roses.
It’s so nice to be back home for a weekend and the sun is out…going to be a cold but clear night for some futbol.
I’ll be off to tonight’s game at the University of Portland in a little while. Things to watch tonight:
-Who starts and how long those players play. I would imagine that Sigi Schmid will play the starters into the second half and then substitute for them, as he did in the most recent exhibition game.
-How Kasey Keller and Nate Jaqua are received by the Portland soccer fans. They both went to the U of P. Read more about that in my game advance here.
-Who are those battling for a scant few roster spots. Seattle has 20 players either under contract or awaiting finalization of their deals because of FIFA bylaws and U.S. immigration law. They are Alonso, Brown, Evans, Eylander, Graham, Hurtado, Jaqua, Keller, King, Le Toux, Ljungberg, Marshall, Montero, Nyassi, Riley, Smith, Sturgis, Vagenas, Wahl and Zakuani. All are pretty much assured a roster spot. That leaves four spots, although there is the outside possibility that two more could open up if Ljungberg and Vagenas are placed on the disabled list and forced out for the league-required six games.
-How much trouble the Timbers Army causes on its home turf. Can’t we all just get along? Haha.
