SSFC’s US Open Cup opener

Thanks to reader colinhughes10 for alerting me to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup possible schedule. Here’s a link to the US Open Cup site that suggests Seattle will face Real Salt Lake in the qualifying first round.

Read Steven Goff’s DC United Soccer Insider blog for some more insight. It also contains a quote from Seattle coach Sigi Schmid on the turf at Qwest.

One more thing: LA Galaxy just announced it has waived former UW player Ely Allen. Here’s more from the team’s official announcement that it waived five players, including Allen, a midfielder:

Allen and McDonald were each drafted by the Galaxy in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, with Allen being selected in the second round and McDonald being selected in the fourth round. Each featured regularly at the start of the 2008 season before various injuries forced them to the sidelines. Allen appeared in 12 games during his rookie season, making 11 starts. He scored the first goal of his MLS career against Colorado on June 7 and then added his first assist of the year a week later in San Jose.
