Hello all from a spring training game between the L.A. Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox. The photo is from just after the Dodgers took the field at their new spring training home, Camelback Ranch, just about 90 minutes ago.
YES…I know this is a SOCCER blog but I’m just sharing with you what I’m up to. The purists out there would be happy to know that there is a guy named Beckham on the field – White Sox infielder Gordon Beckham. The dude hit a home run as I was writing this.
Interestingly, there is a guy on the White Sox named Brent Lillibridge whose baseball games I covered when I was a prep sports writer for the Times. He went to Jackson HS in Mill Creek.
OH YEAH! Almost forgot the most important thing — Manny Ramirez had his news conference today here announcing his signing, and after the first inning, he was introduced to the crowd of 5,594 at the game and stepped out on a balcony overlooking the field, raising his arms in recognition of the applause from the Dodger fans.
Quite a scene — Manny stood there in full uniform for about a minute, then was gone. He was like an emperor lording over his loyal subjects.
