1 and 0, and what a feeling

I’m only now starting to sift through the postgame quotes. But let me start with some thoughts:

-Fredy Montero = Seattle’s newest sports hero. I don’t know if the team sells Montero jerseys, but there might be a run on them when they come out.

-Celebs in the house: Seahawks WR Bobby Engram, Sounders FC ownership partner Drew Carey, Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire (who did draw some boos when announced), MLS commissioner Don Garber.

-Great national anthem by Dr. Stephen Michael Newby and his choir, which was stationed throughout the stadium during the anthem.

-There is blue and green confetti all over the field right now.

-The crowd = amazing. Plenty of cheers, even more noise and enough to celebrate. I know the opening of the upper deck has been a hot topic on this blog, and despite the following from Sigi Schmid, it doesn’t seem likely for future regular-season matches.

“I think we’ve got to open up some more seats for next week and get more people in.”

-Nice moment on the field before the game when both teams’ starters got together for a photo before kickoff. Not two teams on different sides, but mixed together. Right on.

-NIckname Schmid have Jhon Kennedy Hurtado: “El Presidente.” Very appropriate.
