Fredy Montero – MLS Player of the Week/Jugador de la Semana

NEW YORK — Seattle Sounders FC forward Fredy Montero was voted Major League Soccer’s Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2009 season. Montero dazzled the capacity crowd at Seattle’s Qwest Field with two goals and one assist to lead Sounders FC to a 3-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls in their inaugural game.

The 21-year-old Colombian international opened his MLS scoring account in the 12th minute, taking a pass from Sebastien Le Toux, settling it with a touch and driving a hard, right-footed shot past New York goalkeeper Danny Cepero. Montero’s strike was a historic event – the first goal for the expansion Sounders FC. It is one of eight goals nominated for Sierra Mist Goal of the Week.

Por ahora Montero y su compañero colombiano Jhon Kennedy Hurtado no han recibido la llamada de su equipo nacional. Típicamente jugadores son notificados por su federacíon nacionál dos semanas anterior.

NUEVA YORK — El delantero de Seattle Sounders FC Fredy Montero fue reconocido como el primer Jugador de la Semana de la temporada 2009. Montero cautivó a un graderío a rebosar en el Qwest Field con dos goles y una asistencia que llevaron a Sounders FC a conseguir la victoria por 3-0 durante su juego inaugural ante los New York Red Bulls.

El internacional colombiano de 21 años abrió su libreta en el minuto 12, al batir al meta neoyorquino Danny Cepero con un disparo rasante y cruzado al segundo palo. Este gol no soólo fue el primer tanto del colombiano en la MLS, sino también el primero en la historia de este equipo de expansión.
