I want everyone to know I have read the comments and emails about the cap on seating capacity at Qwest for Sounders FC games, and I reached out to the team to get something on the record about why it is capped at 27,700.
It’s important to note here that originally, the team was going to limit capacity to 24,500. That become 27,700, and an exception was made for the opener to make it 32,000-plus because of the demand for tickets.
Fans have expressed displeasure at not opening the upper bowl and Hawks Nest bleachers for game in order to feed the demand for tickets, but Sounders FC is steadfast in its decision to keep the atmosphere more intimate in the lower bowl.
Here’s where the team stands on the matter, debate it if you’d like:
“We want to go through an entire season to better understand supply and demand for a full MLS season. For now we feel comfortable with an intimate seating configuration of 27,700. We increased it beyond 32,000 for the inaugural game to meet demand. While these first two games have sold out, there are tickets available for all remaining home dates after this Saturday.”
