Not good news for the Rave Green today. It seems the club’s star forward is ill and unable to fly, at least today.
If Montero can’t get to Toronto tomorrow, he more than likely won’t play in Saturday’s game. So this is to prepare you for not seeing No. 17 in a blue jersey against the Reds.
We all know that the flu can take some time to get over. So let’s ponder a game without Montero for a moment.
If he can’t play, Sounders FC has some options. It can start Roger Levesque, a natural forward, in Montero’s spot. It can change alignment and add perhaps an extra midfielder — Freddie Ljungberg, though he might not be ready to play a full 90, or Sanna Nyassi, a fast guy who has the ability to score — into the formation. Or it can put Nyassi at left midfield where he started the opener and move Steve Zakuani from that spot to Montero’s. Those would seem to be the most viable options. Any thoughts?
Zakuani could be the best choice because he has dynamic scoring ability much like Montero. And his speed has already proven to be a factor.
