Nobody beats the Wiz – sometimes

I think, and please someone correct me if I’m wrong, that that was the catch phrase of a store on the East Coast once.

Of course, I’m referring to the Kansas City Wizards, and the truth is that two teams have already defeated the team formerly known as the Wiz this season. Here’s some notes about the game, and also a link to my story about the upcoming game.

*Five of Seattle’s seven goals have been scored with the right foot.

*Three of KC’s goals have come from outside the penalty area while Seattle has one.

* MID Davy Arnaud leads KC in scoring with two goals.

*Sounders FC has become the first team in MLS history to record shutouts in the first three games of its existence, and are 62 minutes short of a league-record scoreless streak to start the season.

*Sigi Schmid is 13-14-5 vs. KC in his career in the regular season (17-16-8 overall). KC coach Curt Onalfo took his team, mostly reserves, to Seattle for a US Open Cup game last year against the USL Sounders, and Seattle won on penalty kicks at Qwest Field.

*The following Sounders FC players have played all 270 minutes of the season — Hurtado, Marshall, Evans, Alonso, Keller, Riley, Scott. Only three Wizards have done so — GK Kevin Hartman, M Jack Jewsbury, D Jimmy Conrad.

*Nate Jaqua has four career goals vs. KC. Marshall has three.
