That’s the top story with Sounders FC right now…who plays in place of Kasey Keller Saturday. Chris Eylander got a long look in the reserve game Monday.
Wanted to share a couple of more things. Peter Vagenas and Taylor Graham got their first live game action in months on Monday, being substituted in late in the match.
Vagenas (see photo by Richard Morrison below) said he felt like “a kid in a candy shop out there.” He’s coming back from knee surgery.
Vagenas said he was probably more nervous for the 20 minutes that he played Monday then the 31-year-old midfielder had been in a long time.
“I’ve got to convince Sigi [Schmid], which is like finding a needle in a haystack with that guy,” Vagenas said about being ready to play. “He’ll always find holes in my game…but I’m getting there. I’m getting more comfortable. I’m at the point where I’m probably more sore after training then I am during, which is a good sign. But I’m obviously not quite where I need to be.”
It won’t happen this week, Schmid said, but Vagenas would love to get on the field against Chivas USA, whose crazy fans he said followed him home after a SuperClasico match vs. the LA Galaxy last year and broke his car window.
“Worst fans in the league, those guys. Just classless,” Vagenas said, perhaps somewhat tongue in cheek though I have yet to get to know him well. “So I owe them one.”
