Tocaron “El Rey” por Vicente Fernandez en el estadio despues de la victoria de Chivas USA.
English: “But I continue to be the king.”
It’s a lyric from song played last night after the final whistles, “El Rey,” a Mexican classic by Vicente Fernandez. Great song.
Chivas USA turns the northwest plaza of the stadium into “Chiva Town,” complete with live music on stage and a replica of the famous Minerva statue in Guadalajara, Mexico (home of the original Chivas) and this pictured below.
Couple of more things from the game last night, now that I have returned to Seattle:
-Osvaldo Alonso had ice over his left knee as he walked into the locker room. That was after he had a nice short reunion with Cuban countryman Maykel Galindo, who is injured and didn’t play for Chivas. The two, who both defected to the U.S. at different times and have seen their life paths go through Seattle, embraced and talked in a hallway.
-I’ve had the chance to meet some of the top writers and bloggers/columnists from around the league, and last night, one of those was Andrea Canales from goal.com. I’m sure some of you are familiar with her work, if not you can see some of it here.
