Where did the sun go? Back in hiding but hopefully for not too long.
Full attendance, except GK Ben Dragavon. MID Osvaldo Alonso was running on the side. I reported on this blog after Saturday’s game that Alonso had ice over his left knee as he walked back to the locker room. Alonso didn’t practice today, and coach Sigi Schmid said the team wants to be careful with him until the swelling goes down.
It doesn’t seem like Alonso, arguably the most consistent performer on the team so far, will miss this week’s game, but we shall see.
Schmid said FWD Jarrod Smith, DEF Taylor Graham and MID Peter Vagenas are getting closer to being game-ready as far as fitness. He said Vagenas is the furthest behind.
-During a scrimmage-type drill, backup GK Chris Eylander took out FWD Fredy Montero with a nasty slide as Eylander went out to make an aggressive save with Montero bearing down on him. Montero was upended and went high in the air before crashing down to the ground, but was OK. Schmid pretended to give Eylander a caution and walked off the penalty kick distance. Montero drove the PK home, and afterwards, joined teammates in a mock photo pose as Schmid pretended to snap the photo.
Here’s a shot of Kasey Keller back in goal, he’s raring to go for sure.
