No assist for Hurtado

This from Sounders FC today:

Today, after reviewing the first Seattle goal vs. San Jose, MLS officials ruled that Jhon Kennedy Hurtado’s flick was not intended for Tyrone Marshall. The deflection by the defender provided a loose ball for Marshall to pick up and his pass created the scoring play. Therefore Hurtado will not be credited for a secondary assist on the goal by Zakuani.

Too bad. Several players got touches on the ball on Steve Zakuani’s goal. So officially, Hurtado loses what would have been his first MLS assist. Marshall gets his first of the season.

Speaking of Marshall, anyone else like the nickname “Minister of Defense” for him? I coined it on the game thread last night.

Osvaldo Alonso — three cautions now. Two more, and he has to be suspended for a game. Don’t think the team can afford to lose him the way he’s played this season.
