If you missed me on it at around 12:28 (thanks pugetpounder for the kind words), you can catch the replay on Comcast Ch. 179 at starting at 10 p.m., I believe. Dave “Softy” Mahler’s KJR radio show is aired live on TV, and the replay is at night. So I guess that would put me on at about 12:28 a.m.
So far the segments have gone well. Shameless plug time: Every Wednesday at 12:20 is my slotted time. Yes, they are brief, but I’m happy to do it and I applaud Softy for reaching out to the fans of soccer in this town and embracing the game and the team. It’s smart business sense, too. And thanks to the Seattle Team Shop and Sodo Sports for sponsoring it.
I would love to do more on KJR. I’m reminded of when Jim Rome came to Portland for a live show and his program was on for four hours but Portland only carried three of those. So Rome kept telling the listeners to “bang your monkey for a fourth hour,” meaning “call or contact the station program director so often that he has to give in to the listeners’ demands.”
And what did “Monkey” Arena (Steve was his real name) do? He gave Romey his fourth hour right there on the show, and the sports bar (yes, I was there) went nuts. The moral of the story? I suppose you could call KJR if you wanted more soccer talk…just a thought. I know Matt Gaschk does fine work on the station and makes sure soccer is in the mix.
No Rapids trip for me. I will finally be able to enjoy Seattle’s nice weather this weekend, though I’d love to be at the game. The Times has been really good about sending me on road trips and I can’t make them all, the economy being what it is.
Here’s a photo from practice today, or rather the end of it.
