A good tie for Sounders FC

All things considered, I think Sounders FC will take the draw from tonight at Colorado.

It was 2-2 without Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans and Freddie Ljungberg. I thought it was huge for Fredy Montero to figure in both goals — but after watching from a different perspective on TV and not live, I can see where many of you have expressed concern over Montero’s constant diving in search of fouls. I think a couple of those could have been called but I also think he’s trying to find a way to offset the physical play in the league.

What a game for James Riley in front of 50 or so friends and family members in his home state. Riley’s passes set up both goals, and were well placed.

Defensively, Conor Casey was a marked man and someone the team I thought was keying on in practice last week, but he had his way too often against the defense. Casey is beast of a forward and has some skills with his feet and it showed.

Not sure what was going on with the constant attack from the wings by the Rapids. It seemed Omar Cummings or someone else had free run on the flanks without a defender out there to at least impede his progress.

Kasey Keller is largely responsible for the draw, solid as he was in the net.

Hard for me to evaluate how Vagenas played in his first game action. King, though, was a suitable replacement for Alonso and made at least a little difference.

The forwards did what they are paid to do, score. And Ty Keough was very good as analyst on the broadcast.
