Sounders FC will face one of four teams for next U.S. Open Cup match

The first-round groupings and games are now out on usopencup.org, and the four teams that will battle for the right to play Sounders FC in the third round of the tournament are the Kitsap Pumas from here in Bremerton and the PDL, the Portland Timbers of the Rose City and USL-First Division, the Orange County Blue Star of the PDL and Irvine, Calif., and the Sonoma County Sol, a team in the amateur United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) from Santa Rosa, Calif.

Kitsap hosts Portland June 9. The Blue Star and Sol face each other, with the winners moving on to the second round. The winner of that match faces Seattle Sounders FC in Round Three June 30, or some time around that date.

If form holds, it would be Portland vs. Seattle in that game. Try telling that to the Pumas, however. Keep in mind that Hollywood United, a USASA team last year, upset the Timbers at PGE Park 3-2 in the first round of Open Cup play 2008.
