Game thread – Seattle vs. Columbus

Game on 7:36 p.m.

-Ljungberg trips over the ball to start game. Ugly.

-7th min long service from Riley, header by Zakuani draws a corner. It’s Ljungberg.

-10th: Montero just quelled a good run, not sure why he stepped in front of a pass there.

-11th: Crew gets close as it takes a bit for Seattle to clear.

-12th: Pat Noonan takes a feed and dribbles ahead of Marshall, great cross to Moreno who has a step on Hurtado and the shot beats Keller. 1-0 Columbus.

16th: Ljungberg corner for Marshall with the header, just wide.

20th: Keller bails out Hurtado with sliding save.

30th: Waiting for something to happen so I can write. Sounders FC is getting worked but it seems to be the more attacking team. Only Crew seems to have them frustrated.

31st : And here it is, big chance here. Ljungberg with a PK but he MISSES it wide left. You can hear the wind coming out of the fans’ sails. Zakuani set up the PK with pass to FL, who got taken down Zayner.

37th: Vagenas cautioned.

40th: Sounders FC gives it away, Ekpo dribbles through traffic and has a wide open shot on Keller from the top of the box, which Keller comes out for and stops.

42nd: Montero with low skipping shot but its hardly a threat, saved.

43rd: Evans is on a knee tying his boots, I mean shoe.

45th: Ljungberg with a nice run…free kick cleared. End first, 1-0 COLU.

SECOND HALF

Let’s see if SSFC can make the adjustments. It hasn’t cleared the ball well on defense and the players look frustrated.

51st: Vagenas with a drive from point through traffic, blocked by Eric Brunner.

54th: Ljungberg is playing well but for his first half gaffe. He draws a corner, its cleared out.

58th: AND THE EQUALIZER! Jaqua controls a looping pass from Ljungberg and in one motion, sends it far post for a line drive goal. Padula unable to get there in time for Crew.

It’s 1-1.

64th: Ianni in at CM, Vagenas out.

66th: Jaqua has really come on here in 2nd. He flicks to Montero, who controls, shoots and its blocked wide.

69th: Schelotto is in for Columbus and his shot on goal is knocked over the top of the goal by Keller. Hurtado appeared to have not defended that one well, and Keller is chastising his defense.

72nd: This is strange. Play stops, Montero runs up to take the ball and set up his free kick. There has been a caution issued and now SSFC gets a free kick from the top of goal box! Huge wall in front of C-Bus goal. This is nuts.

75th: Still no kick….waiting…flick from Montero to Ljungberg and the shot glances away and out. Corner kick. Weird.

83rd: Le Toux in, Jaqua out to loud applause.

90th: I’m writing on deadline as always. Waiting for extra time…somehow, Crew is getting a free kick from 23 yards away from Keller. Fans chanting “Ref You Suck!” Marshall was just red-carded. And he’s walking off the field.

Schelotto will take and its blocked and cleared. 10 men for SSFC.

Sturgis in for Montero.

Game ends to boos. 1-1 final.
