with that quote in the story I wrote for today’s Times, about the witty Peter Vagenas, a Sounders FC midfielder who got his first regular-season action last week. That’s him in the photo above.
The question will be whether Vagenas plays today, as Brad Evans probably will, and I would think Freddie Ljungberg as well. But with both of those players coming back from injury or illness, Vagenas is likely at the very least a second-half substitution.
This is really Seattle’s year of soccer. New, successful MLS team playing before sellout crowds. The MLS Cup coming here. And after Chelsea’s win in the FA Cup this morning – I watched – two European champions are coming to Qwest Field this summer. Chelsea and FC Barcelona, winners of the Champions League.
Chelsea actually won 3-1 instead of 2-1 because the official missed the ball crossing the goal line on a second half shot. The goal was not allowed though. Nice replay work. Great goal by Frank Lampard of Chelsea, he fell down and got back up and kicked it in.
