Sounders FC practice, June 2, 2009

Updates: M Osvaldo Alonso was running but not doing any soccer work. DEF Zach Scott was also doing some individual stretching, but no practice.

Two new players in training with the team: GK Tyrel Lacey from U. of Tulsa and DEF Dylan Leslie from St. Mary’s College (Calif.).

Quote of the day from coach Sigi Schmid:

“We can’t forget we’re an expansion team. People sometimes forget we’re an expansion team, and they’re trying to pretend that we’re already there because we have some prominent players. When Chicago did as well as they did, the league was only two years old, so there were three or four teams that were already rebuilding completely and then there were maybe two, three teams that had it together and the other teams were somewhere in limbo. So we’re trying to accomplish in six months to a year what it takes most teams two or three years to do. … It takes a little more communication. It takes concentration. It’s harder to do. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. So I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far. I think we’re a good team. We want to become a very good team and eventually we want to become an excellent team, and we’re trying to do it as quickly as possible. So we need the fans’ patience, but every game we think it gets a little better for us too.”
