Not much today from practice. This is typically coach Sigi Schmid’s day off from the media.
Osvaldo Alonso did not practice. Freddie Ljungberg, Peter Vagenas and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado did so those guys should be good to go for Saturday.
I was asked if there is an appeal process for a player, in this case Tyrone Marshall, for a red card. The answer is yes, done through the players union, but in the referee report, it says the ejection was “due to violent conduct,” I am told.
An official saw Marshall throw a punch. I didn’t see it on the FSC replay, I’m sure few people saw it happen. But if it’s in the report, that seems like pretty concrete evidence that an infraction occurred, and Marshall never actually denied anything.
A fan also emailed me regarding the issue of fans standing at Qwest Field throughout the entire game and how that takes away from the enjoyment of the game for someone who cannnot stand the entire time. It’s a touchy subject – some say don’t buy tickets if you don’t want to stand the entire time, others say be considerate of those who must sit because of physical limitations. Here’s a statement I received from the team on that matter:
We are committed to providing a memorable fan experience at all Sounders FC matches. In the short term, we will do all we can to accommodate season ticket holders who request to change their seat locations for the remaining 11 matches. We will work with the season ticket holder to find on a long-term solution for next season.
The team offered contact information for those who have any issue.
