Ljungberg: Chivas USA player tried to break his leg

That’s what the Sounders FC midfielder said today at practice, and he explained that he was so frustrated with the officials after the game that he ran up to them and gave them a piece of his mind as they were leaving the field.

Ljungberg did say that the Chivas player apologized to him. But it seems that the designated player is still struggling to cope with the officiating, as there was a point in Saturday’s match (first half) when he complained about the lack of a foul call and Schmid was heard shouting at Ljungberg to leave the ref alone and let it be.

I asked Schmid about the reaction from Fredy Montero after he was taken out of the game in the second half. Montero appeared to be upset with his removal and it showed in his body language.

“Most players aren’t happy when they’re going to be replaced, and that’s pretty standard,” Schmid said. “It was something we talked about after the game as a team, and I’ll be talking to him individually as well. But it’s not an issue.”
