Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

June 17, 2009 at 3:04 PM

Some odds and ends for today

If you miss FC Barcelona here or want to see it again, the Spanish club will play CD Chivas de Guadalajara (the REAL Chivas) of Mexico in San Francisco at Candlestick Park on Aug. 8. Tickets go on sale Monday. It’s an 8 p.m. start, preceded by San Jose Earthquakes at Columbus Crew at 5:30.

The Washington Post’s Steve Goff reports that Jaime Moreno, DC United’s captain, is out of tonight’s match with a hamstring injury. Goff also writes the following:

Wednesday’s game will mark United’s first visit to Seattle since a 1-1 exhibition tie with European titan Real Madrid almost three years ago.

I urge you to go to Goff’s blog and read what he has to say about our wonderful city in an entry called “Wednesday Kickaround.”

Don’t forget that the game is on ESPN2 tonight at 7:30. One of the best names in the game, besides Fred, is here with the United, Thabiso “Boyzzz” Khumalo. Yeah, Boyyyzzzz! Sorry, had to go a little Flavor Flav there circa 1990.

INJURY REPORT: SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC – OUT: GK Chris Eylander (L medial knee bone bruise); DF Zach Scott (partial tear abdominal muscle); DF Taylor Graham (R metatarsal fracture); FW Jarrod Smith (L hamstring strain);

PROBABLE: MF Peter Vagenas (R ankle pain); DF Tyrone Marshall (knee bruise) … D.C. UNITED – PROBABLE: MF Ben Olsen (hamstring strain)

-Wednesday will also mark the fifth national TV match for Sounders

FC and the team is undefeated (2-0-2) on such occasions: The opening

game of the season, the 3-0 win over New York, was aired on ESPN2.

Seattle also beat Toronto FC, 2-0, and tied Columbus, 1-1, on Fox

Soccer Channel. It tied the L.A. Galaxy, 1-1, in a Telefutura telecast.

-When Sounders FC scores, points in the standings have followed,

and when Seattle scores first, so much the better. It is 5-0-3 when striking

first and 5-0-5 when scoring at least one goal. Each of Seattle’s three

losses has been by shutout.
