Got a nice welcome back from Sigi Schmid today, thanks to him for that.
It sounds like all went well with the U.S. game/Sounders FC match viewing at the stadium I’m told a few thousand stuck around and watched the second half of the U.S.-Brazil game. Wish I would have been there but I was somewhere over southern Canada I think.
Rather than me tell you, I’ll have Schmid’s quotes explain the day’s developments at Starfire.
(On starters for USOC third round game at Portland Timbers) “There will be some guys who played last night. And there will be some guys that didn’t play much last night, and some guys who didn’t play at all. It will be a mix of all that. We’ve got to see how people are healthy wise, how people recover a little bit. I had some conversations with three or four players today, seeing how they’re feeling. Obviously we’re going to be missing a couple of guys with (Brad) Evans and (Tyrone) Marshall going away with national team duty. So it’s going to be a mix mash a little bit.”
(On not playing next weekend allowing a few more starters to play on Wednesday) “It helps a little bit for sure because of the fact that we don’t have a game on the weekend, it’s a lot easier to talk to somebody and say ‘I need you to play here, because its not like I’m going to need you three days later to play 90.’ So it makes it easier mentality sometimes to prepare and say ‘I’m a little tired, but I think I can push through this one.'”
(On keeper situation for Wednesday) “Obviously there’s Kasey (Keller) and there’s Terry Boss. Terry just joined our team. (Chris) Eylander played that first Open Cup game, but he’s not ready. He’s not off the IR yet. We’ve had a conversation with Kasey. I’m going to have a conversation with Terry Boss, and we’ll probably make that final decision tomorrow.”
(On injury situation with Sebastien Le Toux, Steve Zakuani and Osvaldo Alonso) “Seba played in the game, came through it okay. Zakuani is still not in the team practices, so we will see how he got through today. We put him through some fitness work, straight ahead stuff. So he’s there. For Alonso, like I said, he’s out for Wednesday. So we’re hoping he recovers as quickly as he can. But Zakuani and Le Toux, I think Seba’s fine, and Zakuani we’ll see tomorrow.”
