Live from PGE Park in my hometown, the Rose City.
Good to be home. Just left the stadium where practice was pretty uneventful. I got a sense of the lineup for tomorrow and it looks like Le Toux and Levesque, that solid pair of forwards from previous U.S. Open Cup matches this year, will start again.
The rest of the lineup is as Sigi Schmid said, a mix of starters and reserves. Freddie Ljungbgerg, Fredy Montero and Nate Jaqua are with the team in Portland, as is Kasey Keller but no decision made yet on who starts at GK.
Jarrod Smith is back with the team after his time with New Zealand at the Confederations Cup.
Steve Zakuani was running on the side.
The Timbers people tell me that there are only about 2,000 tickets left for the match. Capacity for soccer is about 16,000. The Timbers Army will be behind the north goal as is customary. The ECS and Sounders FC supporters will be in the southwest corner of the stadium, far removed from the Army. Good move.
The Timbers average just under 8,000 fans per match, which is one of the best in USL-1.
That’s Portland coach Gavin Wilkinson talking to a reporter.
Listening to “Take on Me” by a-ha at the Starbucks across the street from PGE Park. 80s, yeah!!!
The new Timber Jim mascot for Portland is Timber Joey. Does the same act with the chainsaw and the log, but the original Timber Jim has retired.
Signing off for now but here’s a link to my story about the old NASL Timbers-Sounders rivalry.
