But I missed them. The team was leaving when I got to Starfire for Sounders FC practice, my bad. They were apparently practicing right alongside Seattle on a nearby field. I know Lamar Neagle thought it was pretty cool. He said so. What a summer for him. Fresh out of college, he earned a contract with Seattle, got on the field vs. Chelsea, is practicing right next to Everton and coming up next, FC Barcelona.
It seemed like there was some confusion as to where the Barcelona game would be seen on TV. It will be carried by ESPN2 on Aug. 5.
Today Sigi Schmid was asked about a third straight opposing coach (Gary Smith of Colorado, Curt Onalfo of Kansas City and last night Dominic Kinnear of Houston) to complain about the Starfire turf.
“Obviously I’ve coached a lot of years and not had to coach a team where turf was their primary field. It’s not ideal. The turf at Qwest is better. The turf out here [on practice field] is better. Maybe they’ll be able to replace it with a better turf down the line. But believe me, I’ve gone into situations that were much worse. When you play at Rochester when they played in the old baseball diamond, that field was dangerous.”
