Kasey Keller: “Some guys gotta grow up a bit.”

Some things for you to think about as I say buenas noches….
Kasey Keller spoke after the game. Here’s what the team provided:
On tonight’s match…”Difficult. After the win at L.A., we really wanted to get a good run going. And, we have so few home games left, we wanted to take advantage. But, I think sometimes when you have a pretty good home record and great fans, you take things for granted a little bit.”
On Sounders FC offense… “Sure, if you don’t score goals you are always critical of strikers. But at the same time, you need midfielders to show up in the box… You need defenders to show up on corners. If a defender shows up on a corner and heads the ball in. Pat [Ianni] had a good chance. It went wide. It’s a team. It’s not just the guys up front. And, it’s nice to be able to score something special as well. You win games sometimes by somebody just doing a little piece of magic and we haven’t had that either. It’s time to truly see if we are a playoff and a contender for this league because this is the time when you need to start getting your form to get into playoffs and have a good run.”
On what to take away from tonight’s match… “I don’t think anyone got injured. That’s always nice. We got another suspension. Once again, we will have to change our lineup around. At some time, we need to go on a three, four, or five game run with the same team on the field and start to build some unity. There’s some crazy stat that we have had 21 games and only the same back 4 a handful of times. And that’s very difficult for a team. In doing that, we are doing very well. I have said all along, guys have stepped up when asked and have performed very well. But, this is when to get the right team on the field and start moving in the right direction.”
Now here’s what I got:
“Nothing would be worse for me than to have as good a season as we’ve had and just let it fizzle out at the end. It’s truly important that we really step up in the next couple of weeks and show that we’re legit.”
Keller said the team hasn’t had many players-only meetings. “Besides really the game at San Jose, we’ve been in every game. There’s been a handful of games when we’ve sat in here and said ‘That was a tough one.’ D.C., obviously…but for the most part we’ve fought very hard and we’ve got our reward for it.”
Silver lining from this? “I don’t think anybody got injured, that’s always nice. OK, we’ve got another suspension, great. Once again we get to change our lineup around. At some time we need to also go for a 3, 4, 5-game run with the same team on the field and start to build some real camaraderie.”
“Also some guys gotta grow up a little bit. There’s still some stupid things happening on the field that you’ve gotta learn from those situations and don’t let it happen again, and if it keeps happening you’re going to find yourself out of a job…Final third of the season, you should have learned by now.”
