Thanks to FC Dallas’ win over the LA Galaxy, and a draw between Real Salt Lake and Chicago, Sounders FC’s positioning in the top 8 of MLS is a bit stronger.
Seattle’s win gives it 37 points, good for the fifth seed based on point total alone. Columbus, New England, the Galaxy, Chivas USA and Colorado all have at least one game in hand and are either in the picture or are just off the pace, but Sounders FC did improve its standing.
Tomorrow’s action has more bearing on the race for the playoffs than today’s. All four teams in action — New England vs. Chivas and Houston vs. Columbus — are contenders. But no matter who wins the NE-Chivas match, neither team can surpass Seattle in point total. Which means Sounders FC can’t fall any further than where it is for the time being.
