The team picks it up tomorrow.
So I was talking with a friend today about Sounders FC and I got to thinking about some of the “unsung” players. The guys we rarely hearing about who are putting together solid years.
For me, James Riley has to top that list. I would include Osvaldo Alonso but enough of you give him plenty of credit on this blog.
We know that Hurtado has been solid and was an All-Star. Tyrone Marshall has had a long career. Anyone you folks want to throw out there?
Riley, to me, just seems to get the job done game in and game out. No one on the team except Kasey Keller has played more minutes, a testament to his fitness and just making the right decisions for the most part. So does Leo Gonzalez, but he hasn’t been here as long.
One other thing for the time being: The USL First Division playoff field is set, and here they are:
1. Portland (gets first-round bye, though the Timbers lost back-to-backs to a couple of bottom-feeders at home this past weekend, Austin and Cleveland City Stars).
Carolina, Puerto Rico and Charleston will be the 2-4 seeds and can choose whether to host the first or second game of the two-leg, aggregate score series with seeds 5-7. Those teams will be Montreal, Rochester and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
