Sounders FC got a little assist from the team it lost the Heritage Cup to, the Earthquakes, on Wednesday night.
The Quakes drew with the Colorado Rapids 1-1, slightly helping out Sounders FC’s playoff chances. Colorado and Seattle are tied for the third seed in the MLS West now with 38 points, and both have played the same total of games (26).
Sounders FC also has the advantage, for now, over the following teams that have played the same amount of games as Seattle: D.C. United (36 points), Real Salt Lake (34) and Toronto FC (34). Chivas USA has 37 points in 24 games so it is in a better position than Sounders FC, and a win is doubly needed for SSFC this weekend, as New England has played two fewer matches and has 34 points.
Kansas City has a chance to vault right into contention if it can defeat the Rapids this weekend at home. The Wizards have 30 points and have won three of their past four matches.
