Last blog post for a couple of days

I will be away from the blog until Wednesday but wanted to leave you with a couple of more things.
A) The team is practicing Tues-Thurs of this week, Friday will be a practice game, Saturday and Sunday off. I will have updates later in the week.
B) I am back from Columbus. Northwest Airlines = no leg room.
C) Sigi Schmid was very happy to be welcomed back by the Crew fans. He said the win was important because it gives the team a chance, though small, to finish second in the West.
“We’re showing that we’re growing,” Schmid said of his team. “We still want more [points].”
D) This is some speculation, but something to think about: If every team in playoff contention including Seattle won out the remaining games of the season, Sounders FC would still be No. 8 of the eight playoff teams and be seeded No. 4 in the East as the fifth-place team from the West. Obviously, there will be losers. But this is good for Sounders FC because some of these teams are going to fall out of the race and others just can’t catch Seattle with the number of games left. More good news – four teams against which Seattle doesn’t have the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage for the time being are behind Sounders FC in points, and really only one of those four, New England, has the best shot at moving past Seattle but will need at least four points over its last three games and Sounders FC losses in its last two games to overtake the Rave Green.
E) Brad Evans told me last night that the team really emphasized holding onto the lead at halftime, after what happened in New England two games ago. Evans and Tyrone Marshall talked about finally having a game where the bounces went Sounders FC’s way rather than the other way.
F) Houston drew with KC, which hurts the Wizards’ chances and now puts the Dynamo in Sounders FC’s crosshairs. Houston has 44 points with two games to play and can easily be caught and passed by Sounders FC, and Seattle owns the tie-breaker head-to-head advantage. It also does over the Galaxy, which also has 44 points. LA and Houston have clinched playoff spots.
