Counting down to Sounders FC kickoff vs. KC Wizards

We’re less than an hour away. I’m watching Chicago-New England now on FSC. Started watching after the USC-Notre Dame game just as C. Blanco came on as a sub for the Fire.
Interesting reading from the Kansas City Star. Wizards coach Peter Vermes wondered aloud about his team’s fitness. That shouldn’t be a problem for Sounders FC after a week of rest.
An excerpt from that story:

Since the Wizards’ 2-0 loss at Chivas USA last Saturday, Vermes has been vocal about the team’s lack of conditioning. In that game played in southern California, Vermes believed the Wizards played their best 65 minutes of soccer all season, and then suddenly the tank ran on empty. The look on his players’ faces told the story: They were breaking down, and Chivas took advantage by scoring the two goals.
“The thing that is hard for me to swallow is when we lose the game based on fitness,” Vermes said. “And you can just see that we’re just not fit enough to carry the game for 90 minutes.”
“To see that our team is like that at this point of the season is a little bit disappointing. I think the guys realize that, too; they’re dying out at the end of the game.”

The Fire needs to win to clinch a playoff spot. If it gets a draw with NE, Chicago needs D.C. United and FC Dallas to lose. It’s 0-0 in 89th minute at Gillette Stadium.
The Toronto result didn’t help Sounders FC, but if FC Dallas and D.C. United don’t win tonight and Seattle gets a draw with KC.
4:55 PM: Chicago-NE game now over. It’s a 0-0 draw. Chicago’s chances to get the East No. 2 look pretty good now with 42 points through 29 games.
