Which is the tone of this article by my pal Ives Galarcep from Soccer by Ives (in this case, ESPN).
Here’s an excerpt:
Philadelphia is still four months away from making its debut, but there continue to be encouraging signs that the Union could do for MLS in 2010 what the Seattle Sounders did for the league in 2009.
I was watching SkySports on FSC this morning and there was a story about the Ireland-France game and Ireland’s efforts to be added to the World Cup field. The assistant manager, Liam Brady, called FIFA president Sepp Blatter “an embarassment.”
For or not fair – I think they should replay the match, personally – Ireland will be on the outside looking in, this ESPN Soccernet story says.
ESPN has a World Cup site as we move closer to the draw.
Speaking of that, reader Andrew Marshall sent me this link, a story in the UK Daily Telegraph about the draw.
And the Vancouver Sun’s Marc Weber reports that the Whitecaps of the NASL, that rogue league of former USL-1 clubs, will be guided by coach Teitur Thordarson for its last season at that level. Thordarson will be a candidate for the MLS team coaching job after the 2010 season.
