Central defender Tyrone Marshall has been called in to the Jamaica National Team for its January 31 home friendly with Canada. Marshall has 68 caps and last played for the Reggae Boyz during the 2009 Gold Cup.
Marshall was voted the Sounders FC Defender of the Year by his teammates. Despite missing most of July for national team duty, he made 26 appearances, starting 25, and finished with two goals and two assists.
Marshall is expected to leave Seattle on January 27 and return on February 1.
Keller a Finalist for 2009 Sports Star of the Year
Sounders FC captain and keeper Kasey Keller is among the five finalists for the Professional Sports Athlete of the Year, to be announced tonight. The Seattle Sports Commission and Seattle Children’s Hospital are hosting the 75th annual Sports Star of the Year, presented by MTR Western, at Benaroya Hall.
Preseason Training Begins January 25 at Starfire
Training for the 2010 MLS season begins next Monday, January 25, at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila. Approximately 30 players, including non-roster invitees, are expected to be in camp.
Sounders FC/ Washington ODP Teams Win Two Regional Finals
Two of the four Sounders FC/Washington Youth Soccer ODP boys teams in the 1993-96 age groups reached the championship game of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Championships, held from January 16th through the 19th in Phoenix.
Both the B95 and B96 defeated California South teams to win their respective championship. Both finished undefeated (4-0-1) during the regional. A third Sounders FC/Washington team, the B94, fell to Cal South in that final. In all, six of the eight boys and girls state teams advanced to the semifinal round of their age group.
The ODP regional brings the top state teams from Region IV together for competition to help select the regional and national team pools for the youth age groups.
2010 Product Arriving Daily at Pro Shop
Supporters can begin gearing up for the 2010 season. The Pro Shop at Qwest Field and Pacific Place are now regularly receiving new product.
Sanna Nyassi made his official senior national team debut and scored in his second appearance for Gambia during two friendlies played earlier this month. Nyassi started for Gambia against both Angola (a 1-1 draw on January 3) and Tunisia (a 2-1 win on January 10). He had scored a goal in a 2-1 win over Serekunda East, a regional selection, in an exhibition on December 24… Brad Evans and the U.S national team will conclude its January training camp this week and host Honduras in a friendly at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, on Saturday night… Upcoming birthdays: Roger Levesque turns 29 on Friday, January 22 and Sanna Nyassi will be 21 on January 31.
