Portland, Paulson agree on PGE Park deal, and celebrating the life of a Seattle soccer pioneer

The news from Portland is very good for Northwest soccer fans, however CIty Council approval is still needed and you never know with those folks.
I think back to when my parents and sister were working, with a larger group, to get a street in Portland named after Chicano civil rights leader Cesar E. Chavez. It was finally approved, but the struggle took almost two years and the city council was cutting deals behind closed doors and things kept getting tabled.
So here’s hoping there are no hitches in the process.
As for the local story, soccer wizard of knowledge Josh Mayers from my paper wrote this blog post, announcing a birthday celebration for Mike Ryan, a legend as far as the history of soccer in Seattle. The party is Feb. 14 and everyone is invited. Details from the Times’ high school sports blog.
