Fredy knows Phoenix

But first, it appears that Sounders FC is a Portland Trailblazers’ good luck charm. The team is at the Blazers-Phoenix Suns game tonight at the U.S. Airways Center and the Blazers are moments away from winning this thing.
Fredy Montero told me last week that he’s been to Arizona before. As a member of Deportivo Cali, he was with the team that played in the Copa Panamericana sponsored by DirecTV in July of 2007. Cali was in the tournament with some top Latin American clubs – Boca Juniors, Alianza Lima of Peru, Club America and Cruz Azul of Mexico and Caracas.
“We were playing at University of Phoenix Stadium,” Montero said. “It’s really nice and really big. Boca Juniors was the champion at this one. So I’d very much like to go back to that magnificent stadium.”
Tomorrow will be my final blog post as Seattle Times Sounders FC reporter. Have no idea what I’m going to say.
