In Tuesday’s morning session, the team was split into three groups based on their workload the previous days.
Two of the groups did limited regeneration in the morning, with several passing drills making up the days work – one groups work being slightly more rigorous than the other.
The third group was made up of players who had lighter evening workloads on Monday. Included in that group were Fredy Montero, Sanna Nyassi, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Osvaldo Alonso, who were finalizing paperwork for the team’s trip to Spain at the Spanish Consulate in San Francisco on Monday, Peter Vagenas, Zach Scott and Freddie Ljungberg, who had Monday evening scheduled off, and Roger Levesque and Tyson Wahl, who had proven to have elevated fitness levels and could maintain the high workload through another morning session.
With Chris Eylander and Derby Carillo in goal, that group played in a 35-yard, narrow field 4v4 plus 1 drill for most of the training session, concluding with a finishing drill and some sprints.
Mike Fucito and Steve Zakuani, who celebrated his 22nd birthday Tuesday, sat out the morning session to rest injuries and Terry Boss saw limited action on the side while he recovers from an ankle injury.
The team had a weights session in the gym in the evening.
Feb. 10 –
In today’s training session, the Sounders had their first taste of rain as they battled through a chilly downpour for a series of 10v10 games on a shortened field.
With the goals on the top of the 18-yard boxes, the team was split into three groups and played several short games of fast-paced soccer.
One squad scored on consecutive possessions. First they got a nice cross from Josh Gardner to Sanna Nyassi at the far post, but Nyassi’s shot was defended and the rebound spilled to Roger Levesque for a one-touch goal. Not long after Freddie Ljungberg played a ball that Nyassi put away for the goal.
Steve Zakuani and Mike Fucito sat out with injuries and Terry Boss did some light work on the side.
The team only had one training session today as they prepare for a training game with the Vancouver Whitecaps Thursday morning at 11:30 am (10:30 am Pacific Time). You can catch the live-blog coverage of the game on www.soundersfc.com.
The team returns to Seattle Thursday night before heading to La Manga, Spain, on Monday for the third leg of training camp.
