One last reminder that the Sounders FC plays its second preseason game Thursday morning (9 a.m. local cup) against a solid Rosenborg team in the La Manga Cup opener.
I’ll be up and online trying to find a “complimentary” broadcast or liveblog. Here’s some broadcast information that appears to require payment. Either way, I’ll try to have some updates going and maybe offer some of my first thoughts on players and formations.
A Seattle win would be shocking, in my opinion. The Norwegians are a successful, established team, which has been training for a while, and won’t be as jet-lagged. I’ll predict a 3-1 loss.
On the team website, Matt Gaschk provided an update with goalkeeper invitee Derby Carrillo. Also, Colorado away on May 29th now has a game time, 6 p.m. in Seattle.
— Some notes around the league: Philly’s soccer stock appears to be on the rise, RSL’s Chris Wingert takes his turn on The Salt Lake Tribune blog, The Dispatch has some good notes on the Crew, D.C. still hasn’t scored in two preseason games, San Jose’s new forward Eduardo might be one to keep an eye on and, lastly, Kevin Hartman is looking like he’s out of Kansas City’s plans.
— To try to clarify a confusing story, I guess it’s Chivas Guadalajara and not Chivas USA in a battle over its name and brand.
— Did you see Freddy Adu scored again?
— There was all sorts of craziness in the Champions League matches yesterday, both involved controversial refs (the Henry-handball ref and the one from Chelsea-Barcelona last year). Also, the UCL final is going to be played on the weekend, not a Wednesday morning.
— Lastly, how about a recent video featuring some of the most bizarre penalty-kick attempts I’ve ever seen.
