I know you guys and gals are uber-interested in potential incoming players, and here’s a story that introduces us to a young Colombian named Miguel Montano, who the club might be interested in bringing to Seattle.
I’m sure there are a dozen or so players the Sounders FC ownership have scouted and like. And knowing the go-getter mentality of Adrian Hanauer and Chris Henderson, I’d expect a number of new faces in training and new names in transfer rumors over the next five weeks — and maybe beyond?
Seattle’s roster isn’t perfect, by any means, so it could use tweaking. Not to say that it’s bad, but finding a new piece or two could be very beneficial. I’ll try to help distribute as much information on personnel moves as possible.
Another potential target Sounders fans have heard is Blaise Nkufo, who this blogger tried to find some information on.
But some bigger news around Major League Soccer came out Friday. A work stoppage might be on the way. Word is the collective bargaining agreement negotiations are NOT going well. The deadline to reach an agreement is Feb. 25, less than a week away.
According to MLSPU Executive Board member Pat Onstad, none of the major issues – a list that includes club autonomy, guaranteed contracts, free agency, and bilateral contract options – is close to being resolved. Meetings between the two sides took place Wednesday and Thursday, at which point the players went public with their frustration.
“In the last month, there’s been no significant movement at all,” said Onstad. “The last offer we put on the table has not even been remotely addressed. Right now, [the negotiations] are in a bad place. We’re far apart.”
If these talks don’t improve soon, incoming transfers won’t mean a thing.
— On that sour note, I guess I’ll finish off with some links. Luis Gil, a youth national team player, has signed with MLS and a weighted lottery will place Monday to see who gets him (are Seattle fans crossing their fingers?). Turkey and the Czech Republic will play an int’l friendly in Red Bull Arena. Goal.com recently had a chat with ex-USL Sounder Brian Ching and another story regarding league goalkeepers. Lastly, Will Johnson was the latest to take over The Salt Lake Tribune blog. Which Sounders player would do best with a blog post here?
Anyways, it’s time to get some sleep. Got another 12+ hour day of prep swimming tomorrow.
