Many Sounders FC fans followed the team as much as possible during its trip to La Manga, Spain. Some scoured the internet for live feeds of the games. Several followed live blogs at multiple locations.
But one couple took following the team to another level.
Bob Overturf and his wife, Karen, actually traveled to southeast Spain to watch the team play in person.
That’s right, the two Poulsbo residents watched the La Manga Cup games live in the bleachers with the relatives and guests of the players and coaches. You might have seen them in the stands during the live feed of the Rosenborg match. They are believed to have been the only Seattle fans at the tournament that weren’t connected with a team member.
I got a hold of Overturf’s nephew Eric Bender a while back, and he said his uncle has been a lifelong Sounders fan — dating back to the NASL and USL days.
“He (Overturf) was ecstatic when he heard they were going to become an MLS franchise,” said Bender.
And I’m sure the Overturfs, who have a group of season tickets, are hoping this labor dispute is settled before the regular season is scheduled to start, March 25 at Qwest Field.
