Jeff Parke’s second chance at a second chance, links and notes

While writing this story on Jeff Parke‘s return to Sounders FC training, I made sure to check out our archives on the defender’s saga. I almost forgot how crazy it was.
Though to be fair, it looks like Parke has some staying power this time around. I went on record as saying I thought Parke would be trade bait when he first joined training. After three weeks, I have changed my mind: I think he has a great shot of making the team and contributing this season.
Like he said, it’s a matter of timing. Couple with some injuries and who knows, the third time might be a charm.
The other big news of the day was an update on CBA negotiations. It sounds like they are going to resume next week between MLS and the players union, but a third party will be present: a mediator.
Let’s get to some links:

  • The league website says Kasey Keller is interested in extending his contract to play in the 2011 season, when Portland and Vancouver join MLS. Might be news to the rest of the country, but I’m sure Seattle fans have been aware of this for a while. Also, here’s a cute Sounders FC bib.
  • Around the league, L.A. Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said failed CBA negotiations are the only thing that will keep Landon Donovan from returning to MLS on time. Ex-Husky George John had a photo shoot with FC Dallas recently. Also, First Lady Michelle Obama participated in a soccer clinic with some D.C. United players.
  • Nationally, U.S. Soccer’s Sunil Gulati is confident we’ll get the 2022 World Cup. ESPN offered five storylines to watch regarding the USMNT. Also the NCAA men’s and women’s championships might be combined.

Finally, Sounders FC players James Riley and David Estrada got behind the camera to document the team’s return to Seattle.
