Before I get to bed, former USL Sounders goalkeeper Preston Burpo is lobbying for some playing time over in New England. His quotes took a local flavor at one point:
“My first year out of college, there wasn’t even an MLS,” Burpo recalled. “I was in Seattle for nine years and I had good coaches — Neil Megson, Brian James, Brian Schmetzer — who put their faith in me. When the MLS came in they brought out the heavy hitters and it was the perfect storm, everything they did was a good idea and [Seattle’s] the best place in the league right now.
“When we were there you had a small core of fans, 5,000 for a big game, but you could almost fall asleep in that stadium because there was no atmosphere. Now, if you’re not Sounders you’re not in the in crowd.”
The best place in the league, huh? The in crowd, eh? What do you think of that?
