RAPIDS’ CHARITY SHIELD MATCH TOMORROW CANCELLED DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Thursday, March 18, 2010) – Due to severe winter weather forecasts predicted for Denver and its surrounding areas, the Colorado Rapids and Seattle Sounders FC have cancelled their Charity Shield match that had previously been scheduled for this Friday, March 19 at 7 pm at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
In looking at the potentially hazardous weather that is predicted to transpire over the next 24-48 hours, the Rapids and Sounders felt it was in the best interest and safety of fans, players, coaches and staff to cancel the match rather than risk any potential adverse situation. With travel conditions for Seattle not being advisable, both teams felt it was best for all involved to take this proactive position.
The Rapids apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, as this decision by both clubs was not made lightly but made with the well-being of everyone in mind due to forecasted below freezing game time temperatures, wind chills, snowfall and unfavorable playing conditions.
All fans that have purchased tickets for Friday’s Charity Shield match will have the following options available to them:
– Fans may request that the Rapids donate the money they spent on any purchased tickets to UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) to aid relief efforts in Haiti.
– Purchased tickets may be exchanged for comparable tickets for the Rapids 2010 home opener on April 3.
– Purchased tickets may be refunded.
The Rapids’ Supporters Terrace kickoff event, which was due to be held in conjunction with the Rapids Supporters’ preseason Kickoff Party prior to gates opening tomorrow night, has been cancelled as well. For information on a possible rescheduled date for the Kickoff Party, fans can log onto the supporters’ website www.NoFanAlone.com.
