Friday was supposed to be gameday. The last match of the preseason, where the Sounders FC finally measures itself up to another Major League Soccer opponent. But no one wants to play in a blizzard.
Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said the team offered to host the Rapids, but it didn’t work out. I got the sense Colorado said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks.’ So the team will stay in town the next couple days and train at home.
Let’s get to the other links:
- Here’s a writer that says signing old Europeans is not a good strategy for MLS teams, and references Blaise Nkufo. Not sure I agree.
- On the CBA front, Steven Goff has a great pulse on what’s going in D.C. Also Columbus’ owner was the latest to speak with the media.
- Around MLS, Landon Donovan lent some support to David Beckham, here’s a profile on New York defender Mike Petke and, finally, local boy Raphael Cox was released by Real Salt Lake.
- Lastly, the Stuttgart coach said Messi is already an all-time great. Also Charlie Davies said he is done rehabbing and set to rejoin training.
And, to close, the video that captured the hearts of American soccer fans Thursday: Clint Dempsey‘s super goal to advance Fulham past Juventus in Europa League action.
