Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid quotes (team released)

The team was able to type these up before I could get to them…
* * *
(On Pat Noonan . . .) “Pat is an experienced player. Obviously I brought him to Columbus [Crew] when I was in Columbus and he had some good years in the league before that in New England. I don’t know how many caps he has, probably six or seven or something around there. He is an experienced player. He can play up front. He can also play wide. He has played both flanks. He has played right and left. He has played the high striker. He has played the underneath striker. He’s got decent size. He is good in the air. So he can bring a lot of those elements for us.”

(On Michael Fucito’s MLS debut . . .) “Obviously he has trained hard. He had a couple of goals in the intrasquad game. Based on performances at training and what he did there he deserved that opportunity. For us at the time, we brought on Sanna [Nyassi] first to play up top a little bit and as Steve [Zakuani] tired we figured that was the appropriate change.”
(On players held out of today’s training . . .) “Freddie [Ljungberg] still is sore so we wanted to just keep him off the field today. We also wanted to be careful with James Riley because he felt a little bit of something but he should be back full in tomorrow. We just wanted to get him on an easier today, train tomorrow, off Wednesday [schedule]. Jeff Parke was back in New York. He was being honored as one of the Red Bull Best XI. I guess he got voted to the Red Bull Best XI team for the past decade. Apparently they didn’t get him back to the airport in time to catch his flight on Sunday. [Nate] Jaqua is still rehabbing and he’s actually going to get seen. We want to get a second opinion on it and so we will do that tomorrow.”
