Reporters at Sounders FC training today noticed that invitee defender Jeff Parke wasn’t out there. He had joined the team on trial back in February right before the trip to La Manga, Spain.
Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer said after practice that the two sides (team and Parke) have agreed to part ways for now. Parke, who still has a contract offer from the club, will likely explore his options elsewhere.
Hanauer said the team still would like Parke to join the team, but the two sides of the contract negotiations appear to be at an impasse. (Where’s federal mediator George H. Cohen when you need him, right?)
With a full roster in place and another incoming player in the summer, I don’t think the prospects look too good for Parke joining the team. He apparently isn’t pleased with the standing offer.
But we’ll see what happens.
