Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

Sounders FC Sigi Schmid on the team’s 3rd kit and more

(on yellow uniforms…)
“My wife likes them. She says they’re nice and bright and flamboyant and so forth. I’m a conservative dresser, so I don’t think the coaching staff will be out there in the yellow tops. (laughs) I think it’s great. It shows the respect the club has from an organization like Adidas. There aren’t many teams in the league that have a third jersey. We’ve been a club that from day one has tried to set a high bar and do things that are maybe a little bit different. You know, the rave green had some people scratching their heads in the beginning, but it’s caught on great. This might have some people scratching their heads, but it’s different. It’s a powerful statement.”
(do you make the call when you’ll wear them?)
“The league sort of tells you what you’re wearing in your regular season games. So now it’s a uniform that is obviously available for our exhibition games. It’s a uniform that available for the Open Cup games. I think there are a couple of games where we can make a special request to the league to play with an alternate uniform. So as we proceed further we’ll make that decision.”

(how’s Fucito’s health and will anyone miss the trip due to fitness?)
“We’re actually going with 20 players. We’re going to take 20 because it’s a two-game trip, so that we don’t have to, if somebody gets hurt, bring somebody along. Fucito will travel with us. The first game we’ll have to see. He’s much better today than he was yesterday. But we don’t want to push too early. But for sure we think by Sunday he’ll should be alright.”
(playing in hot weather)
“I think when you get out in the sun for the first time, sometimes that makes it a little bit difficult to play. And that fatigues you a little bit because you’re not used to playing in the sun. But we’re playing at night, so that’s not an issue and we’ll see what the weather’s like in Toronto.”
(CBA chance anything for travel)
“I don’t know. That’s really probably a better question for Adrian and for Chris. I know it changed their meal-money allocation and things like that. How many charters the team is allowed to take, I don’t think it addressed any of those issues that I’m aware of. But I don’t know the details.”
